Apply to become a member of the MCO Governing Council

The Magna Charta Observatory of Fundamental Values and Rights (MCO) invites applications for two people to join its Governing Council. As a global guardian of values and rights in higher education, the MCO is committed to fostering effective university systems worldwide in accordance with the MCU 2020 http://www.magna-charta.org/magna-charta-universitatum/mcu2020 .

 

Since adopting its ambitious strategy in 2015, MCO has seen significant progress. With a growing network of 975 signatories from 94 countries, a revised Magna Charta and increased engagement through initiatives such as the Living Values project we are seeking experienced and passionate individuals to help shape its future.

 

Who We're Looking For:

 

  • Dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds and regions, particularly women, Africa, and Asia (which are currently under represented on the Governing Council).
  • Strong commitment to MCO's objectives and values, ideally demonstrated through prior involvement in MCO initiatives.
  • Significant achievements in academia or governance, with a deep understanding of autonomy and academic freedom.
  • Familiarity with international higher education and governance experience.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • To attend biannual plenary sessions (one in-person, one virtual) and committee meetings.
  • To participate in regional and global initiatives to promote MCO's objectives.
  • To advise on or assist with initiatives where the MCO partners with other international organisations.
  • To contribute to the development of initiatives or resolutions of situations concerning the MCO.

 

  • The role is not remunerated but travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.
